Prohibition Hearthrob Discography
In honor of P. Hearthrob's 23rd birthday and the 3 year anniversary of Mambo, Great Plains is making available the ENTIRE Prohibition Discogaphy (1 split CD (the Growl is first half Prohib, second half the Mahalo Sessions), 2 full-lengths, 2 EPs) as a FREE digital download. It comes with album artwork (covers and inserts) as well as commentary by the man himself. A lot of you may not be familiar with Prohib, especially anyone reading this who is not from California (specifically Santa Cruz), so I really encourage you to check this shit out. Chug that shit onto your computer, give it a listen, and read the notes if you feel so inclined. The recording quality improves with each subsequent release (the order was: The Growl -> Little Victories -> Samizdat -> Behind their Back... -> Boston or Bust) and Mambo clearly 'grows as a musician and as a songwriter,' to borrow a line from June 2009's Rolling Stone review of Behind their Back, Against their Will. Obviously, the liner notes, which are of a more or less personal nature, are more impactful for me and for other people who are close to Mambo, and perhaps the same can be said of the songs, but if you have any interest in listening to and learning about the personal and creative experience of a legitimately intelligent and honest musician/individual, download the discography and check it out. If you know Mambo/Prohib, then you should be all over that shit before and without having read this sentimental nonsense.
